Anxiety

Is the constant stress of work or daily life so overwhelming that you can never seem to relax, let your guard down, or clock out at the end of the day? How do you know if you have anxiety? Some symptoms of anxiety can be:

  • Cognitive: Constant and extreme worry, Frequent nervousness, Difficulty Concentrating on Tasks, Trouble relaxing and sleeping due to racing thoughts or feelings

  • Emotional: Overwhelming emotions, feelings restless or on edge, Irritability or anger, Severe sense of urgency or imminent doom

  • Physical: Accelerated heart rate or breathing, pain or tension, nausea, dizziness, gastrointestinal issues, trembling

  • Spiritual: Existensial dread, feeling lost or without purpose, disconnection from the self, doubts regarding faith and other beliefs

Feeling a certain level of anxiety over big stressors or certain life events is totally normal. We can experience anxiety for several reasons like major life events, responsibilities like work/ school, traumatic life experiences, genetic roots, etc. However, if you find that your fear or worry does not go away and, in fact, gets worse over time, you may be suffering from an anxiety disorder. Mild anxiety is vague and unsettling and often passes quickly, while severe anxiety can seriously affect your day-to-day life. If you are finding your anxiety unmanageable, can’t identify the cause of your anxious feelings, or if you are suffering from physical symptoms (such as heart palpations, fatigue, sweaty hands, upset stomach, or insomnia), it may be time to get help.

Can anxiety be cured?

A lot of times we tend to avoid what's causing our anxiety and we get stuck in unhealthy patterns of avoidance, unhealthy thinking, and self-doubt. Sometimes we may even develop anticipatory anxiety where we become anxious about feeling anxious. Let's work together to develop healthy coping skills and thinking through evidence-based techniques and therapies.

While anxiety covers a range of symptoms and may be debilitating, it is highly treatable. With anxiety treatment, you can feel empowered and present again.
